An amazing Amazon adventure!

Come and explore the Amazon rainforest with us!

This workshop is aimed at Key Stage 2 pupils, particularly those in Years 5 and 6. (You can involve as many pupils as you wish your end for the price of just one ticket!).

After formally welcoming everyone and introducing ourselves, we will transport you to the Amazon rainforest in the state of Amazonas in northern central Brazil, developing pupils' locational and place knowledge in the process. We will challenge any misconceptions that pupils may have about Brazil and the Amazon rainforest before ‘zooming in’ on the Kambeba indigenous community, with whom we have developed a strong rapport over the past few years. Through a storybook approach, we will endeavour to reveal more about their culture, beliefs and values and how they live in harmony with the forest. There will be an opportunity to 'hot seat' Marcella Haddad about her time spent with the Kambebas. If a stable internet connection allows, then we will invite the Kambebas along for a Q&A session, enabling youngsters here to communicate with the children there in real time.

Afterwards, we will set a writing task for pupils to attempt following the session, which embraces some of the key messages from the new 2025 Writing Framework (a focus on subject-specific vocabulary and quality over quantity). The best pieces of writing that are later submitted will be included in a subsequent blog post report.
