Overview

Bestselling author, former NHS doctor, and passionate advocate for healthcare staff in conversation with William Crawley

Join us for a unique and insightful evening as Adam Kay, the BAFTA-winning, bestselling author, former NHS doctor, and passionate advocate for healthcare staff, is interviewed by the BBC's award-winning broadcaster William Crawley.

This event offers a rare opportunity to hear first-hand from one of the UK's most important voices on the state of the NHS and the crucial issue of mental health among its staff. Adam’s diaries from his time as a junior doctor formed the basis of his groundbreaking book, This is Going to Hurt, which spent over a year at number one on the Sunday Times bestseller list and has sold over three million copies.

Adam is a relentless champion for the National Health Service, speaking with vital urgency on the need to protect the institution. Based on his own experience, he has become a leading advocate for mental health support for frontline workers and is a proud patron of charities including the Laura Hyde Foundation. His major achievements include the BAFTA Award for Best Drama Writer for the hit BBC/AMC series adaptation of This is Going to Hurt, and he is one of the country’s bestselling children’s authors with titles like Kay’s Anatomy, the fastest selling kids’ non-fiction book of the decade.

As a live performer, his latest show, Undoctored, was the biggest-selling show of the 2023 Edinburgh Fringe, followed by a sell-out West End season.

Adam will be interviewed by William Crawley, the presenter of Talkback (BBC Radio Ulster) and Sunday (BBC Radio 4), who has won the Speech Broadcaster of the Year Gold Award in the Irish broadcasting awards multiple times. Crawley is also an acclaimed TV documentary maker, elected a Member of the Royal Irish Academy for his contributions to journalism.

The evening will include a dedicated Audience Q&A and Book Signing session.
