Event description

Description

Ash is a respected filmmaker and travel journalist, who brings infectious enthusiasm and sharp insights to his storytelling. After working as a cowboy in Australia, a rugby player in New Zealand and ski instructor in Switzerland, Ash began reporting from some of the most challenging locations on the planet. He has traveled to Everest with wounded British soldiers, walked with explorers through Sudan’s Bayuda Desert, embarked on a pilgrimage with his father’s ashes to the source of the River Ganges and encountered the Area Boys of Lagos in Nigeria. In autumn 2016, he trekked through the Albanian Alps retracing the footsteps of a Special Operations Executive (SOE) mission pursued by the occupying German forces during WWII.

As a cameraman, Ash accompanied Levison Wood for 700 miles of his Walking The Nile expedition, filming extensively in Uganda and the Sahara. He has filmed part of Lev’s critically acclaimed C4 series Walking The Himalayas, joined Lev on the Honduras leg of his Walking the Americas adventure and most recently travelled with Lev on his From Russia To Iran series (also C4). In an on-screen role, Ash has also appeared in On The Run, an adventure travel series filmed in Colombia, which launched on Insight (Sky platform) last year.

In summer 2018, Ash completed his latest expedition, traveling 6000km along the edge of Europe, exploring the realities of daily life for those countries and communities bordering Russia. His adventures are being documented by the Telegraph in a dedicated microsite, as well as in his new Telegraph travel podcast, Edgelands, which recently hit the top spot on the iTunes travel podcast list. Ash has also recently become the face of Barbour's SS18 Original North Sea Outfitters campaign, featuringin a series of short films in which he shared some of his favourite walks along the Jurassic Coast of the UK.

As a travel journalist, Ash has written articles for The Daily Telegraph, The Times, Huffington Post, The Evening Standard, City AM, Sunday Times Travel Magazine, BA Highlife and Etihad, amongst others. His photography has graced the cover of The Times T2 magazine and he has contributed to programmes for Channel 4, the BBC, Animal Planet and Terra Mater. Ash is also the founder of video storytelling company Digital Dandy.

Hear Ash talk about these amazing experiences at Morley Arts Festival 2019.
