An Audience with Dr Anthony O'Brien

Professor Joy Duxbury will lead a conversation with Distinguished Visitor Dr Anthony O'Brien on his research and academic experiences.
Dr O’Brien is a lecturer in mental health nursing at the University of Auckland, New Zealand and a nurse specialist in liaison psychiatry. Dr O’Brien’s PhD research investigated reasons for variation in the use of mental health legislation in New Zealand. In addition Dr O’Brien has researched and published on relationships between police and people with mental illness. This research includes police use of Tasers in community mental health emergencies, and health effects of Tasers. In 2014 Dr O’Brien edited a special issue of the International Journal of Law and Psychiatry focussed on police and mental health. Dr O’Brien is a member of the New Zealand Police Community Liaison Committee which advises police on various aspects of police practice, especially those to do with people with mental illness.
Anthony O'Brien is visiting the University of Central Lancashire as a Distinguished Visitor on 21st to 24th March 2017.
