Event description

Description

Join us at the Virgin Money Sheffield Lounge on Thursday 19 October, from 4pm to 7pm. We’re proud to be hosting an evening that recognises and celebrates Black History Month.

The event will be a chance for everyone to learn more about the history and heritage of the African and Caribbean communities here in Britain.

We will be joined by some eminent speakers talking about all aspects of black history, covering inventors, literary greats, scientists, engineers and musicians. All of whom are black people that have contributed to things that are often taken for granted in the modern world.

Live African drummers will form part of the entertainment - along with a live DJ taking the audience on a musical journey from Calypso and Mento, through to Soul, Ska, Rock Steady and Reggae.

A colourful display of original carnival costumes will be on show – fresh from Sheffield, Leeds and London carnivals. You’ll even be able to try on your favourite one!

You’ll also be able to learn about the origins of traditional African attire, and see people wearing these outfits, with a chance to hear what they have to say about their heritage.

Authentic Jamaican nibbles and drinks will be served, and we’ll be raising money for the British Red Cross Hurricane Irma Appeal.

This event is not to be missed and is one that all of the family will enjoy. Book your free tickets now!
