Description

You are invited to join Vins Extraordinaires for an exclusive evening of great wines, great food, and great company at our private venue in Brook Street, Mayfair, at 7pm on Thursday 28th September.

Guests will receive a complimentary Zalto glass worth £35.

Zalto glassware is handmade in Austria. Unlike most other glassware, there is no lead in Zalto glasses, which makes them stronger, more elastic, and extremely lightweight.

We are delighted to be welcoming Antoine Fanjat, UK and USA representative for Bernard Magrez wines, to present seven wines from the Magrez Bordeaux estates, including four Grands Crus Classés.

We will begin with Château Pape Clément white 2011. There has long been a patch of white grape vines at Pape Clément but the wine from it was not sold commercially until 1994.

We will then taste (and drink) three Grand Cru Classé red wines:

  • Château Fombrauge Grand Cru Classé Saint-Émilion 2008

  • Château La Tour Carnet Grand Cru Classé Haut-Médoc 2010

  • Château Pape Clement red Grand Cru Classé Graves 2007

Château Fombrauge is the largest estate in Saint Émilion and has been producing wine since 1599.

Château La Tour Carnet also has ancient origins and a distinguished history. It is recorded that in 1407 a “hogshead” (about 240 litres) of the Château's wine sold for 36 crowns, compared to six crowns for a Graves wine. It was ranked as a “Fourth Growth” in the 1855 Classification of Bordeaux wines.

Château Pape Clément at Pessac, in suburban Bordeaux city, is the oldest documented vineyard in the region, with its first recorded vintage in 1252.

The red wine of Pape Clément, a “Cru Classé” in the 1959 classification of

Graves wines, is one of the most sumptuous and luxurious wines of Pessac-Léognan (which is part of Graves). The 2007 is one of the stars of the vintage.

We finish with the sweet wine Clos Haut-Peyraguey 2007 from the highest point of Bommes in Sauternes, opposite Château d’Yquem.

As an additional treat, we will also enjoy one or two very old and very rare “mystery wines”.

The combined value of this evening’s wines is well over £3,000.

This fantastic evening of seven fine wines, with copious homemade canapés from Taste Catering Co. and delicious cheeses from Cows & Co, is £125 (+ booking fee) per person.Only 6 places remain so please book early to avoid disappointment!
