Description

This evening brings together economist and musician, Sumangala Damodaran from India and two Scotland-based poets, Nadine Aisha Jassat and Anni Cameron for a celebration of feminism and creative resistance. Sumangala Damodaran will give a lec-dem, singing from her album Songs of Protest and reading excerpts from her new book, The Radical Impulse: Music in the Tradition of the Indian People's Theatre Association. Nadine Aisha Jassat and Anni Cameron will recite feminist poetry. There will be scope for audience interaction. This evening is part of a series of events being organised during the second workshop of a collaborative project between University of Edinburgh, UK and Ambedkar University, Delhi.

About the speakers:

Sumangala Damodaran is an economist and a musician involved in teaching and research in economics, development studies, and popular music studies at Ambedkar University Delhi. She has performed extensively from the documented repertoire and has also collaborated with poets and musicians from South Africa in a project titled 'Insurrections', which is a collaborative project between scholars and musicians, and several universities, in Africa and Asia.

Nadine Aisha Jassat is a poet and writer; she features in 404 ink's Nasty Women, was named one of 30 inspiring young women under 30 in Scotland, and was recently awarded a Scottish Book Trust New Writers' Award 2018.

Anni Cameron is a poet and photographer from Edinburgh who is working on various collaborative projects to amplify the creative work of her peers.
