An Evening of Fun Short Stories for Grown-Ups with Philip Douch & Guests

Come join us for a night of laughter and entertainment at Chapels of Rest for this special Stroud Preservation Trust fundraiser!

Philip Douch, along with guest readers Sarah Lucas, Sallie Anderson and Jenny Nixon, will be sharing their captivating short stories that are sure to tickle your funny bone. Get ready for an evening filled with humour, wit, and maybe even a few surprises. Don't miss out on this unique event for adults looking to unwind and enjoy some good stories beautifully read. See you there!

And please see ‘What should I bring?’ below for essential information....

Philip Douch reads candlelit stories....

He chats for a bit. Then he reads you his stories.

Disarmingly simple. Beautifully crafted.

Expertly delivered. And funny too.

‘It brought joy to my evening’

‘Really really fun’

Philip has toured his two short stories shows - ‘He Does What?!’ and ‘Does He Really Do More Of That?!’ - to community venues around the South West – including the Cheltenham Everyman Studio, The Alma Pub Theatre in Bristol and community halls in Minchinhampton, Randwick, Wotton-under-Edge and Bovey Tracey. He knows that it is ambiguous to say that he also once closed the Nailsworth Festival…..

He has twice won the Gloucestershire Writers Network annual short story competition, read at the Cheltenham Literature Festival and Evesham Festival of Words, and features in the top three for stories chosen for performance at Stroud Short Stories.

More intriguingly he has read in a torrential rainstorm at The Green Man Festival (quite damp), in the dark on the back of a land rover (quite dangerous) and at a Pirates Party (quite dressed up). This is his first time reading in a cemetery (quite easy to add your own joke line here…..)

Here’s what a couple of (non-financially rewarded) people were sufficiently stimulated to say about his recent touring show:

‘We all had a fabulous time and we all talked about it on the way home.’

‘A huge high… I haven’t laughed so much for ages.’

Plus a chance to see inside our lovely old chapels, which are only very occasionally open to the public.

Ticket income is split 50/50 between Philip and the Stroud Preservation Trust who are managing the Chapels of Rest and are raising funds to restore the chapels to their former glory.
