On the evening of Thursday 17th October 2013, rosenfeld porcini is proud to present an exclusive piano recital by the young Italian Jazz prodigy Giovanni Guidi.
For this exclusive event in the gallery, Giovanni Guidi will perform on a grand piano improvisations based on his highly praised recent album for ECM “City Of Broken Dreams” (ECM 2013) alongside reinterpretations of classic jazz standards. This disk has led Giovanni Guidi to being called “one of the world’s best jazz-piano newcomers; his touch is subtle and his sound creates a dynamic and accessible set” [John Fordham, The Guardian, 14 March 2013]. Join us for a unique evening of musical virtuosity in the rarified environment that is rosenfeld porcini gallery.
Born from the desire to assert the gallery’s identity as a dynamic and international cultural hub with an interdisciplinary vision, our ongoing cultural programme features an innovative and open approach to the arts, ranging from performance (dance, sound, theatre, music), debates and talks.
The performance is set to begin at 8pm and will last 75 minutes without intermission.

note on the artist
Born in 1985 in Foligno, Italy, Giovanni Guidi manifested his interest in music as a young child. He began his formal studies in piano at the age of 12. During summer masterclasses in Siena, he attracted the attention of Enrico Rava (one of most famous European jazz trumpeters) who later asked him to join his groups. Giovanni Guidi has recorded several albums with Enrico Rava, Gianluca Petrella and his own groups. The pianist has performed all around the world, playing in New York, San Francisco, Chicago, Sao Paulo, Rio De Janeiro, Buenos Aires, Seoul, New Delhi, Mumbai and in such festivals as Umbria Jazz, Zurich Nu Jazz, Fandango Jazz Festival, Stavanger Mai Jazz, Vigo Jazz Festival , San Sebastian Jazz Festival, Paris Jazz Festival, Jarasum Jazz, North Sea Jazz Festival, among others. Guidi was named Best Italian Pianist in 2011 by the magazine Insound and in early March 2013, he released , after 4 albums as a leader for CAM JAZZ, his first record for ECM “City of Broken Dreams”, with the collaboration of American double-bassist Thomas Morgan and Portuguese drummer João Lobo.

Our next exhibition is the first solo presentation in London of Italian artist Lanfranco Quadrio entitled ‘The Agony of Actaeon’ which features mixed media drawings on paper and canvas on both floors of the gallery (until 21 November).

Founded in June 2011 rosenfeld porcini occupies a prime location in the heart of the dynamic gallery district of London’s Fitzrovia. With 3,000 square feet of gallery space, directors Ian Rosenfeld and Dario Porcini are committed to showing international contemporary artists with an innovative monographic and themed exhibitions calendar. The current display ‘Sound and Vision’ (until 30th September) showcases new sound sculptures by Japanese artist Keita Miyazaki as well as new video works by Korean artist Bongsu Park. Our next exhibition is the solo presentation of Italian artist Nicola Samorí entitled 'L'Âge Mûr', which will feature paintings and sculptures on both floors of the gallery (10 October – 20 November).
