An evening of networking with Manchester Met University’s ‘First Generation

Manchester Metropolitan University are holding a networking event in London on Thursday 30th June for a group of students attending a workplace residential opportunity in the capital.

The students are all scholars on Manchester Met’s award-winning First Generation Scholarship Programme, and the London workplace residential aims to address the recognised barriers first generation students often face in relation to their graduate prospects by exposing them to employers, workplaces and cultural experiences.

The receptions will be a great opportunity for you to meet the scholars, talk to them about their future plans, and offer your own insights and guidance. It will allow them learn from professionals from a range of backgrounds and to develop their confidence in networking. They are studying a range of courses including healthcare; science (particularly biomedical); business; law; computing; education; and arts and humanities.

Background to First Generation

First Generation has been designed to support young people from the North West who have the potential to succeed at Manchester Metropolitan, but whose parents or guardians did not have the opportunity. Most are from disadvantaged backgrounds across the region, and lack a professional support network and connections.

Food and refreshments will be provided.
