Description

An evening of Romantic Cello & Piano Duo repertoire at the beautiful St James's Church, Sussex Gardens with Shu-Wei Tseng (vlc.) and Marco Fatichenti (pno.)

Programme to include works by Rachmaninov, Brahms, Dvorak, and Tchaikovsky.

Known for her exceptional technique, musicality and her programme versatility, Taiwanese-British musician Shu-Wei Tseng has won numerous prizes on both piano and cello. Her concert performances have taken her across the UK, Europe, Russia, USA, and the Far East in major concert halls such as London‘s South Bank Centre, Wigmore Hall, and the Carnegie Hall in New York City.

Her playing has been described as radiating a “passionate, energetic, researched, and committed personality with a powerful, fluid and beyond reproach technique” and producing “characters, colours, dynamics …. seldom heard in concerts”.

Shu-Wei holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder and previous degrees from London’s Royal Academy of Music. Besides solo repertoire, Shu-Wei specialises in the Strings and Keyboard-related chamber music and sonata partnerships. Shu-Wei has enjoyed teaching in UK’s Royal institutions, schools and universities in three continents where she also frequently serve as a juror member, gave masterclasses and lectures. Dr Tseng is presently resident in London and divides her time between performing and teaching at the Yehudi Menuhin School.

Marco Fatichenti is an internationally acclaimed performer and recording artist who has appeared in some of the most prestigious venues across Europe and the United States.

Described by Hilary Finch in The Times as ‘none other than Chopin incarnate’, he was hailed by the International Record Review for offering ‘a different and refreshing slant on Brahms from a vantage point south of the Alps’, and praised by International Piano for ‘marrying Romantic turbulence with Classical order’. His performances include broadcasts by the Spanish RTVE, Irish RTE, Polskie Radio, and several BBC appearances. Marco’s critically acclaimed solo albums include music by Brahms, Stravinsky, Debussy, and Chopin.

Active both as recitalist and chamber musician, Marco is also an educator who is committed to promoting music and its societal value among diverse audiences. He is currently researching performance practice of Spanish and Catalan piano schools in early twentieth century at King’s College London.
