Description

International award-winning British vocal quintet Apollo 5 are coming to Cumbria as guests of a community choir for a unique workshop and performance, sponsored by local music shop Lakeland Music.

Middle Eden Voices are hosting the workshop day as part of their vocal development and are opening the sessions to other singers on Saturday 28 April.

Voted by Classic FM listeners as the Best Classical Music Education Initiative at The Music Teacher Awards 2018 award, Apollo 5 will bring their own style of music workshop, which will be followed by a concert at St Andrew’s Church in Penrith to celebrate the day.

Apollo5 is part of the VCM Foundation, with a commitment to providing inspiring musical opportunities for young people at their base at the Gresham Centre – and people of all ages will have the opportunity to benefit from their teaching as well as see them in an intimate performance.

The vocal quintet gives engaging and lively performances of a wide repertoire of classical, folk, jazz, pop, a cappella around the world.

Community choir Middle Eden Voices started as a small schools’ choir before welcoming parents and grandparents in 2007. The group meets weekly at Long Marton Primary School to rehearse.

The choir booked Apollo 5 for the workshop, to be held at Hunter Hall School, and they will share the stage at St Andrew’s Church in Penrith for a joint concert in the evening.

Founder and conductor of Middle Eden Voices, Barbara Gilbertson said: “Having Apollo 5 run the workshop is a great opportunity for our choir, and we want to open up the experience to other singers in the area.

The group have been featured on BBC Radio 2 and Classic FM as well as performing in St Martin-in-the-Fields, the Royal Albert Hall, and the Houses of Parliament. They have recently been touring across America. Now we have the unique opportunity of not only hearing but also singing with them in Cumbria.”

Owners of the concert sponsor, Lakeland Music, Joe and Tracy Goulding said: “As the local music shop, we are delighted to be able to support our local, community choir bring musicians like Apollo 5 to Penrith.”

Apollo 5 said: "We are delighted to be visiting Cumbria. Working with community choirs is always a pleasure and we are looking forward to working with Middle Eden Voices and performing at St Andrew's Church in Penrith."

A limited number of places are available for the workshop with Apollo 5 which will be held at Hunter Hall School, Penrith from 1-3.30pm on Saturday 28 April (see Eventbit for tickets) and concert tickets for the performance at 7.30pm at St Andrew’s Church, Penrith are also available.
