The London Review Bookshop is thrilled to host an evening with Alan Bennett to mark the publication of his latest book. Keeping On Keeping On (Profile), collects the diary pieces he has written annually for the LRB since 2005, along with other occasional writings and the script of his radio play Denmark Hill.
Bennett’s reputation for wholesomeness has always been richly undeserved, but he is under no illusions that the often acerbic and always witty pieces collected here will do anything to dispel it. ‘I shall still be thought to be kindly, cosy and essentially harmless’, he writes. ‘I am in the pigeon-hole marked 'no threat' and were I to stab Judi Dench with a pitchfork I should still be a teddy bear.’
Tickets include a complimentary copy of Keeping On Keeping On.
