Bestselling author of ITV’s Vera and BBC One’s Shetland celebrates her 30th book in 30 years. Joining her in conversation for a two panel discussion is Alison O’Donnell, better known as Tosh in BBC One’s Shetland.
Ann celebrates her 30th book in 30 years, Cold Earth, and is the seventh book in Ann Cleeves’ Shetland series. In the dark days of a Shetland winter, torrential rain triggers a landslide that crosses the main Lerwick-Sumburgh road and sweeps down to the sea. At the burial of his old friend Magnus Tait, Jimmy Perez watches the flood of mud and peaty water smash through a croft house in its path. Everyone thinks the croft is uninhabited, but in the wreckage he finds the body of a dark-haired woman wearing a red silk dress. In his mind, she shares his Mediterranean ancestry and soon he becomes obsessed with tracing her identity. Then it emerges that she was already dead before the landslide hit the house. Perez knows he must find out who she was, and how she died.
The BBC has announced that there will be a fourth series of Shetland, the popular BBC One drama inspired by Ann’s Shetland novels. Douglas Henshall returns as DI Jimmy Perez, with other regular cast also returning. The six one-hour episodes will be broadcast early in 2017.
We look forward to welcoming Ann and Alison to South Shields for what should be an enjoyable evening in the company of the Queen of Crime!
This event takes place in the Atrium.
