Description

Canongate Books and Manchester Libraries present An Evening with Bestselling Author Jess Kidd

Jess will be in conversation with the Chair of the Portico Prize Simon Savidge.

Jess is the author of 'Himself' and 'The Hoarder', both of which were BBC Radio 2 Book Club picks. Jess also won the Costa Short Story Award in 2016. 'Things in Jars' is her third novel, and is a gripping Victorian detective mystery about what it means to be human in inhumane times. It features a whole brilliant cast of characters including female detective Bridie Devine, who must uncover the mystery of a stolen child.

When it came out earlier this year, Things in Jars was widely reviewed in the broadsheets and magazines. Jess’s fans also include Graham Norton, Joanna Cannon and Diane Setterfield.

Praise for Jess Kidd and Things in Jars

‘Jess Kidd’s stories are so magical, she should be a genre all to herself . . . Things in Jars is exquisite. Perfect storytelling’

Joanna Cannon, author of The Trouble With Goats And Sheep

‘I loved Himself and The Hoarder but this book takes things to another level – thrilling, mysterious, twisted but more than anything, beautifully written and filled to bursting point with heart’

Graham Norton

‘A twisting, precis-defying plot . . . Arresting, funny and well-written’
