Poet, short-story writer and author of seven novels including The Testament of Gideon Mack, Joseph Knight, And the Land Lay Still and News of the Dead, James works in English and Scots. He is the co-founder and general editor of Itchy Coo, which specialises in books in Scots for young readers.
