The Crichton Foundation is proud to launch its 2025-2026 Crichton Conversation series with an exclusive evening featuring renowned television presenter and journalist, Kirsty Wark. This special event, taking place at Easterbrook Hall on Thursday, 2nd October 2025, marks the Foundation's 25th Anniversary and promises an unforgettable night of insightful conversation and personal reflections from one of the UK’s most esteemed broadcasters.
Kirsty Wark has built a reputation as one of the UK's most versatile and respected journalists. Best known for her role as an anchor on the BBC’s Newsnight, she has been at the forefront of breaking news and high-profile interviews for decades. Born in Dumfries and now based in Glasgow, Kirsty’s distinguished career spans over four decades, beginning in 1976 with the BBC as a graduate researcher. She has produced and presented a wide range of programs across television and radio, with career highlights that include landmark interviews with the likes of Madonna, George Clooney and Nobel Prize-winning playwright Harold Pinter.
Kirsty has covered pivotal moments in history, including the Lockerbie bombing in 1988, and she famously locked horns with Margaret Thatcher in a televised interview that propelled her into the national spotlight. In addition to her work in political reporting, she has also presented numerous arts and cultural programs, including critically acclaimed documentaries such as Blurred Lines: The New Battle of the Sexes and The Insider’s Guide to the Menopause, which was nominated for a BAFTA.
A passionate foodie, Kirsty reached the final of Celebrity MasterChef in 2011 and was crowned top celebrity baker on The Great British Bake Off for Comic Relief. Her diverse talents extend to acting, with cameo roles in iconic series such as Doctor Who, Absolutely Fabulous, and The IT Crowd.
Kirsty’s incredible body of work has earned her numerous accolades, including BAFTA Awards for Outstanding Contribution to Broadcasting and Best Television Presenter. In February 2024, she received the Royal Television Society Outstanding Contribution Award, and in 2025, she was honoured with a BAFTA Fellowship, the British Academy’s highest honour.
In addition to her broadcasting career, Kirsty is a published author, with two novels, The Legacy of Elizabeth Pringle and The House by the Loch, under her belt. She is currently working on her third novel.
