Men of the Tyne is a heart-warming show of songs and stories that which captures the life of the men who worked in the Tyne shipyards from the 1950s to the 1980s. The shipyards were a symbol of the North East’s industrial heritage respected throughout the world.
This will be Tom Kelly, Ian Ravenscroft and Ted Cuskin’s first performance in The Word.
The evening will end with a special appearance from renowned North East folk singer Benny Graham, accompanied by Chuck Fleming, who will sing a selection of local North East songs.
Men of the Tyne:
Men of the Tyne has been performed to audiences from across the North East. Tom Kelly wrote and performs the stories in the show alongside songs, written by Kelly with Ian Ravenscroft and played and sung by Ravenscroft with folk singer Ted Cuskin.
Benny served his musical apprenticeship in the folksong clubs of The North East, developing a love of rural songs, and the music which grew from the heavy industries of coal, steel and ship building. Following years working in the UK and Europe as a solo performer, he's recently been working as an actor & songwriter.
