An evening with Muslim Shaggan - Classical, Thumri and Ghazals

By www.QalandarArts.com

Overview

Join the exquisite Muslim Shaggan with Aman Pal on tabla & Kansia Pritchard on Bansuri (flute) for an evening of refined music.

The final performance of Muslim Shaggan's current UK tour promises to be a spellbinding evening of Indian classical music and lighter forms including Thumri and Ghazal.

Musllim Shaggan, from Lahore, Pakistan is the current torchbearer of the Gwalior Gharana. This tradition has a rich 500 year history and is considered the oldest and most foundational Gharana in Hindustani classical music.

Muslim is the grandson of the legendary Ustad Ghulam Hassan Shaggan who formally trained him from the age of Five. Ustad Ghulam Hassan Shaggan made a lasting impact on Western aduiences throughout his career and Muslim is very much continuing that family tradition.

Muslim's performances, whether classical 'raag' or lighter ghazals are almost impossible to describe in one or two words. They are a journey of multiple experiences and emotions for the audience. As per tradition he begins with Khayal and a raag which has a medidative and soothing element to begin with. As he gets into flow it becomes electrifying as the form allows for improvisation and his expression is both intricate and immersive for the listening crowd.

On tabla Muslim will be accompanied by the sublime Aman Pal. A student of Ustad Tari Khan Saab and one of the leading tabla practicioners in the UK today. On Bansuri (flute), Muslim will be accompanied by the enigma Kansia Pritchard. Kansia Pritchard. He's a Musician / Composer / Multi Instrumentalist and Instrument maker specialising in Indian Classical and music of the middle east. From the UK, Kansia has travelled all over the world in his quest to learn and has performed in over 30 countries.

This is our first occasion at Kismet Café Art Gallery. The venue is open all day but the performance is scheduled to begin at 7pm. Seating is unreserved.
