An Evening with Nightingales, Henfield (100337035)
Overview
Tutor: Mike Russell
When it comes to birdsong, the nightingale's melodious and varied voice is so powerful that few other species can match it. Every year, these summer visitors make an incredible 3,000 mile journey from west Africa to the UK to breed, and Sussex is one of the best counties to listen out for them.
This beginners course will introduce you to the life cycle of the Nightingale and you will have the opportunity to listen to some historic Nightingale recordings.
After the classroom session, Mike will take you out onto the reserve (or the Mill Stream opposite the reserve) to hopefully hear the nightingales sing.
During the talk you will learn about:
- Where they breed, what they eat
- Where they go in winter
- Habitat requirements
- How they are doing in the 21st century
- Nightingales and their influence on the Arts
No previous knowledge or skill required.
Mike Russell spent over 30 years working for Sussex Wildlife Trust.
