Event description

Description

Norman Kirtlan – a forensic artist - is coming to The Word to talk about his book which follows on from Murderous Wearside 1 and 2 and Fetch the Black Maria.

The book, Death From… is a look at the role of coroner and some of the strange and tragic County Durham cases that Victorian coroners inquired into. Inquests, held in public houses, were invariably reported graphically in local newspapers and it was these old reports that inspired this look into the lives and deaths of our ancestors.

This is an event not to miss if you’re a fan of crime dramas such as C.S.I and interested in forensic investigation.

About Norman Kirtlan

In his days as a police officer artist Kirtlan helped solve dozens of serious crimes.

He was able to get victims and witnesses to describe the assailants and he would produce sketches of suspects.

Following his retirement in 2006, he worked with French and Dutch forensics teams. He then set up a forensic imaging firm on Tyneside.

Kirtlan has also released multiple books centred on forensic investigation.
