Sir Jim established Balmoral Group in 1980 with just five employees. Today, the group employ approximately 800 people and provides solutions to the global subsea, renewables, civil and environmental engineering sectors.

Among his many accolades, Sir Jim was previously made Burgess of Guild and Lieutenant of Aberdeen City, Honorary Doctor of Business Administration at Edinburgh Napier University and Honorary Fellow of the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland. In the Queen’s Birthday 2022 Honours List, he was awarded the honour of Knight Bachelor for services to business and charity. Sir Jim’s other titles include a member of Entrepreneurial Scotland and Founder / Chairman of the Friends of ANCHOR cancer care and research charity.
