Event description

Description

We're delighted to welcome to Verve acclaimed painter Richard Twose, who will give us his insights into the world of contemporary portait painting.

Why does this medium endure in an era of digital photography? What makes a great portrait? What challenges does a modern day portait painter face? Richard, who has called Bath home since 1999, is certainly qualified to talk on this subject: in 2011 he was awarded first prize for a portrait by the Victoria Art Gallery here. Then in 2014 his iconic painting of Bath’s own ‘fabulous fashionista' Jean Woods, was awarded second prize at the National Portrait Gallery’s BP Portrait Awards, an award for which he was once again shortlisted this year - this time for his portrait of film director Ken Loach.

Richard will share his thoughts through the example of his own work and the work of others. We’re expecting a tantalising glimpse into the world of contemporary art. Dont miss it!

To reserve your place, just register on the link above.

Weds September 6, doors open from 6pm, talk will start at 7pm prompt. Join us for drinks and nibbles - and hopefully some good debate - before and after....

Looking forward to seeing you there !
