An Evening with Rodney Matthews plus special guests
Sat 28 January 2017, 20:00 – 22:30 GMT
With a career spanning over 50 years, Rodney Matthews is one of the world’s foremost illustrators of the fantasy genre. His rich creations, featuring strange creatures, exotic plants, lavish landscapes, as well as fantastical cities and machines, have appeared in books, posters, record covers, computer games and animation since the 1970s.
Collectors of his work include John Cleese, who first purchased a Matthews ‘Alice in Wonderland’ piece at The Chris Beetles gallery in London’s West End.
His full colour artworks have been exhibited in galleries throughout the UK and Europe. However, for the very first time, he has decided to exhibit some of his pencil sketches, providing the rare opportunity to delve into his innermost thought processes.
To coincide with this unique event, Matthews will be giving a talk on Saturday 28th January at 8pm, recounting many tales of his fascinating and humorous life in art and rock music. He will be joined by special guests Peter Ledeboer*, legendary founder of the Big O poster company, who published Matthews posters world-wide, in their millions, throughout the 1970s and award winning keyboardist and composer Oliver Wakeman, who has performed over 150 shows as a member of prog band Yes and is currently recording on Matthews album 'Trinity' due out this year. Not to be missed!
*UPDATE 24.1.17 - WE REGRET TO INFORM YOU THAT DUE TO ILLNESS PETER LEDEBOER WILL NOT BE IN ATTENDANCE
