About this event

An evening with South London Feminist Book Club and author of For Such a Time as This by Shani Akilah, at The Sun pub in Clapham Old Town

Come and join us for our second author event of the year!

Here's a little bit more about the book:

From the tingling excitement of a new relationship to the challenges – and humour – of online dating, from workplace racism to isolation and loneliness, Niah and her friends are there for each other.

They're young, they're smart, and they're part of a tight friendship group determined to make the most of everyday. The world is full of possibilities when the pandemic hits, and snatches away everything they take for granted. Shani Akilah's spectacular collection of stories bursts with romance, friendship and warmth.

For Such a Time as This offers a powerful snapshot of a moment, a city and a group of friends who sustain each other through bad times and good.

More about Shani Akilah:

She is a book influencer, served as a literary judge for the Nota Bene Prize in 2023, and holds a Master's degree in African Studies from the University of Oxford. The Feminist Book Club House Rules:

We welcome feminists from all walks of life and backgrounds, and this group is open to everyone - we want this to be a fully inclusive space;

You don’t need to be an ‘expert feminist’ (whatever that means) to be involved - we want to read books that everyone can enjoy, and that cater to people’s different experiences and understandings of feminism;

This is primarily a social space, for meeting and getting to know like-minded people - so while feminism can be a heavy topic, we hope to keep this more on the fun side;

This is a judgement free zone - don’t belittle or undermine other members, or those who don’t have the same ideas as you. Don’t shut down other people’s views and be respectful;

If you feel like anyone goes against any of these values, let us know!

Follow us - we are growing!
