President of Emmaus UK, Terry Waite CBE will be sharing a selection of extracts from his new book, ‘Out of the Silence’. The book includes a moving sequence of poems and reflections that recalls the highs and lows of Terry’s life, both during his ordeal being held captive in Beirut, and throughout the happier years of his humanitarian work that have followed. 2016 marked the 25th year Terry was released from captivity in Beirut. Terry’s experience in captivity gave him a great insight into the misery, isolation, fear, boredom and despair that many homeless people go through when they are experiencing homelessness.

The event has been has been made possible through the generous gifting of a legacy by Jill Hobday to Emmaus Norwich in Ditchingham. The evening will be hosted in the former convent buildings that the charity now occupy with personal introductions from Companions of Emmaus and the Sisters of All Hallows The readings will be followed by a buffet supper and a signed copy of the book included in the ticket price of £20 which can be purchased from Emmaus Norwich at Ditchingham.
