We are proud to announce an additional RBN event for the 2016/17 season. On Wednesday 26th October 2016 Hudson, Caledonian Exchange, 19a Canning Street, Edinburgh, EH3 8EG are kindly hosting the event which will run from 6.30pm to 8.30pm. We are fortunate to be able to bring the Scotland 7’s Squad and RBN members together before the Squad leave to take part in the IRB World Series at the end of November, the first tournament of this season being in Dubai 4-5 December 2016.
Scotland 7’s members who will be present on 26 October are;
James Johnstone, Mark Robertson, Scott Wight, Nick McLennan, Dougie Fife, James Fleming, Jamie Farndale and Scott Riddell.
The abbreviated form of the game of rugby has been growing fast globally with its inclusion in both the Commonwealth Games of 2014 and the Olympics of 2016 (at which GB, including Mark Robertson and Scotland 15’s player Mark Bennett won Silver Medals) and this growth looks set to continue. Scotland are one of the established nations in 7’s, having invented the game, and are well placed to remain at the forefront with recent success culminating in winning the Twickenham round of the IRB World Series in May 2016.
There is no “normal” route to follow to become a 7’s player and each player has their own story about how they won their place. We will hear from three of them who will give an insight into the life of a modern 7’s pro player and their own particular route into pro rugby and the 7’s squad, but there will also be an opportunity to ask questions of any of the squad.
We are sure this will be a very interesting and enlightening event and the players are looking forward to speaking to business people from a wide range of industries, sharing their experiences and possibly identifying areas where business and sport can learn from each other.
