An Evening with Tom Robinson
Fri 17 February 2017, 17:30 – 19:30 GMT
Tom Robinson is a British songwriter and broadcaster. The Tom Robinson Band (TRB), early supporters of Rock Against Racism, enjoyed chart success in the 1970s. Unusually for the time, Tom was openly gay and a vocal supporter of LGBT rights.
He had further hits as a solo artist and co-wrote songs with Elton John, Peter Gabriel, Dan Hartman and Manu Katché.
Since 1987 Tom has hosted programmes on all eight of the BBC‘s national radio stations and won two Gold Sony Academy Radio Awards, including for the programme You've Got To Hide Your Love Away, a history of Queer music.
He has presented shows on BBC Radio 6 Music since its launch in 2002 and is now best known as a DJ and champion of new music artists."
This event is organised by the LGBT+ staff forum of the University of Leicester, as part of LGBT History Month 2017.
