About this event

On 30/06/21 from 7-8pm, Barnet libraries in association with Generation2Generation presents: An evening with Vivienne Cato talking about the story of her Holocaust survivor mother, Eva Cato, neé Rotenstein.

The Story of Eva Cato, neé Rotenstein

Presented by Vivienne Cato

Eva Cato, neé Rotenstein, was born in Czechoslovakia 13 years before the outbreak of World War Two. An only child growing up in a small town in Slovakia with her mother and grandparents, she witnessed the encroachment of anti-Semitic hostilities and regulations on the life of her small Jewish community.

Escaping to Hungary in 1942, she and her mother spent the last three years of the war hiding under false identities, in constant fear of discovery.

The presentation by Eva’s daughter, Vivienne, takes us through the key points of this story, using footage of Eva recorded in 1992 by the British Library with Yale University as part of their Holocaust testimony project.

Vivienne Cato is a teacher, facilitator, and writer. She has published in the fields of literacy, Judaism, and the environment.

Originally a primary school teacher, and a past Synagogue Director of Education, she has worked with many mainstream schools and teacher-groups supporting the delivery of Judaism education.
