Event description

Description

In this thought-provoking lecture, Westonbirt Head of History, Mr Ahmed, will discuss how one of the greatest tragedies of modern times took place. He plans to explore the motives behind the devastating crime against humanity and consider how humans are capable of such horrifying acts. Mr Ahmed will illustrate how the Holocaust developed over time to become the infamous act we all recognise today. Perhaps most importantly, he will examine the consequences and lessons that should be reflected upon.

In June, Mr Ahmed visited Auschwitz concentration camp and Auschwitz-Birkenau extermination camp with two hundred other teachers and educators from the Holocaust Educational Trust. The focus of the trip was to promote teaching of the Holocaust through enhancing teachers’ knowledge of the individuals who were targeted by the Nazis. This fascinating lecture is suitable for adults and children from Year 9 upwards.
