About this event

We’re taking over Curve theatre & Leicester’s Orton Square for an entire day filled with music, dance, workshops, culture, and food!

Whether you just want to grab a drink from the outdoor bar and enjoy the summer vibe, or get involved and take part, there’s something for everyone.

Outdoor Performances

Expect a showcase of live music & dance with opportunities to learn & have a go yourself! Artists include Dhol Players & Band Baja, Rajasthan Heritage Brass Band & look out for Enter Edem’s flock of peacock performers taking flight around the square!

Food & Drink

Try a range of delicious South Asian food from our street food vendors including some of Leicester’s favourites - Kayal, Herb and, Desi Street Food.

Our workshops and activities inside Curve will be open and accessible to everyone - Children AND Adults!

For Knowledge Seekers & Cultural Enthusiasts

There will be Sufi inspired dance performances produced through a unique collaboration between artists across Pakistan and the UK, and a lively panel talk from Forward Culture marking the 50th anniversary of Asian Ugandan expulsion.

Plus we have a world-class performance by internationally acclaimed musician, Talvin Singh!

Inside Curve - Cafe and Mezzanine Floor. 12pm-6pm - Activities for Adults & Children

Free henna design from local artist, Jamilla’s Henna.This activity is very popular, so arrive early to avoid disappointment.

Saree Demonstration. Saree Expert Bhawna Bhawsar invites you to come and learn more about the history of the saree and how to wear it.

Saree Dress Up. Have a go at wearing a saree helped by expert Bhawna Bhawsar.

Get immersed in stories exploring smells and others senses in this sensory storytelling workshop led by our Creative Programmes Practitioner, Chandni Mistry.

Environment-focused art and crafts with Sym Mystry, using upcycled and recycled materials.

A fascinating and in-depth discussion about the legacy of migration and colonisation on South Asian women with three pioneering speakers. Hosted and chaired by Seetal Kaur (Co-founder of FowardCulture and two-browngirls.com)

5pm 6pm - ON THE HOUR: DANCE KAHANYAN - Rehearsal Room 2

Join us to celebrate an exciting international project that brings together two world-renowned choreographers and dancers.Expect live dance performances and short films made by young people in the UK and Pakistan, plus a documentary sharing the experiences of our artists in each other’s cities.
