An Insight into an Employment Tribunal - Tactical Awareness for HR in Dismissal Pitfalls (A Case Study Approach).
Tuesday, 13 June 2017 from 09:00 to 13:00 (BST)
Speaker: Nicholas Kennan of Cornwall Street Chambers
The Employment Law Special Interests Group (SIG) will be an interactive discussion led by Nicholas Kennan. Nicholas is a barrister at Cornwall Street Chambers in Birmingham with a civil, employment and regulatory practice. As a former solicitor, Nicholas understands that a barrister can be an integral part of the client’s legal team.
Nicholas has acted for both employees and employers in the employment tribunal in unfair and constructive dismissal claims.
Although content to represent either party in an employment tribunal claim, Nicholas has generally acted for more employers; he is able to assist HR consultants or in-house HR managers by clarifying the law in an area which is constantly changing and advising on the commercial management of tribunal claims.
Nicholas also has experience of whistleblowing and discrimination claims, interim relief applications and advising employers in equal pay claims.
This event is aimed at HR Managers/HR Professionals to help fully consider the pitfalls during a dismissal process. During the morning we will consider, as a group, what we need to be ready for an Employment Tribunal, development of witness statements and what makes for a good procedure. The case study we will follow will give opportunity to reflect on mistakes made and how to avoid them; giving us the insight during cross examination of where the errors were.
Please arrive from 9am for networking and refreshments. The event will take place from 9.15 until 1pm, closing with a networking lunch until 2pm. Parking is available at the venue - there is a charge involved at the pay and display car park. Please be aware that, although a paid for event, this event has been heavily subsidised by the Shropshire Branch.
