Event description

Description

The University of Edinburgh’s Energy and Society Network invites you to attend a discussion of the Scottish Government's draft Energy Strategy. In this document, the Scottish Government laid out plans to achieve a stable, managed energy transition, including energy supply; energy use; and smart, local energy systems. Earlier in the year, Network members wrote a series of blog posts in response to the Energy Strategy; these will be introduced by the authors and act as the platform for wider discussion. Figures from policy, practice, and academia will provide responses to the posts, including: Gina Hanrahan from WWF Scotland, Alasdair Reid from the Scottish Parliament Information Centre, and Harry van der Weijde from the University of Edinburgh's School of Engineering.

The blogs were posted on the website of the Global Environment & Society Academy: http://blogs.sps.ed.ac.uk/global-environment-society-academy/category/energy-society-network/ . These blog posts cover a variety of topics of significance for the Energy Strategy, including:

- The analytical and political challenges of integrated energy policy making (Mark Winskel);
- The use of energy systems modelling (Chris Dent);
- Running public consultation events (Mags Tingey, Dave Hawkey, Ruth Bush, Jan Webb);
- Retrofitting British homes (Niall Kerr);
- The impact of Brexit on Scotland's Energy Strategy (Peter Zeneiwski);
- Why renewables can improve the quality of homes (John Brennan);
- The use of evaluation in Scotland’s Energy Efficiency Programme (Ruth Bush and Jan Webb).

The event will consider the opportunities and challenges of an integrated approach to transforming Scotland's energy future.
