The aim is to give you a taste of this simple but intriguing way to make prints from an everyday packaging material we'd ordinarily throw away. This technique is a particularly accessible Intaglio method––it's affordable & there's no need for use of chemicals or exacting registration in the printmaking process. In addition, I'll also be teaching Chine Collé–a simple way to add colour to your print without the need to make further plates.
This workshop, led by artist Jules Bradbury, is a great way to begin to understand basic principles of Intaglio and gain confidence to do more and keep exploring! As we'll be a small group there's ample time to try things and ask questions.
What to expect:
A relaxing afternoon, learning a great print technique alongside others in peaceful surroundings.
After the intro, our session will begin with learning how to hand-tint tissue paper for Chine Collé. Then we'll dive into our process. First you'll learn how to prepare to print: making a 'damp' stack', making paper fingers and the importance of a 'printer's kiss'! Everyone will make a test strip, exploring a range of mark-making & introducing the idea of plate tone. Then we'll each go on to work a design into the surface of the Tetrapak sheet & ink up, ready to print. Everyone should come away with a small set of prints on high-quality paper + their own Chine Collé papers.
