Description

The British School of Upholstered Furniture are offering a one day introductory course on chair caning with Rachael South.

Suitable for beginners this class will be an opportunity to learn the traditional 6 way woven pattern to a professional standard. You'll complete all 6 stages (the whole process) on a small practice frame in one day. As well as learning 6 way pattern Rachael will also give an overview of caning materials and history of the craft and its applications.

Practice frames to take away, materials, tools and lunch are provided.

Rachael is a third generation chair caner and seatweaver, taught by her father who learned from his father. Working From her studio in East London on antique and modern restoration and contemporary experimental seat weaving.

Rachael is also a member of The Basket Makers Association, Heritage Crafts Association and a Yeoman of the Worshipful Company of Basketmakers.
