Event description

Description

Are you curious about what Dramatherapy is?

Would you like to find out more?

Are you considering training as a Dramatherapist?

Would you like a spend a day being creative with other like-minded people?

This workshop is for you!

This full day experiential workshop introduces participants to core Dramatherapy processes through the use of play, storytelling, games, symbols and metaphors. The workshop includes an introduction to Dramatherapy principles and theory, and opportunities to play and experience Dramatherapy processes in action. Essentially, a day of play, creativity and connection.

What is Dramatherapy?

Dramatherapy is a unique form of psychotherapy; a creative and imaginative way of working therapeutically with people. Dramatherapists use a variety of interventions to allow clients to explore their experiences, tell their stories, and express themselves in a way that might be easier than directly talking about it. Through the use of story, myth, play, imagination, objects and character creation, a safe distance is generated for clients to explore and reflect on experiences and feelings in a symbolic and indirect way.

About the Participants

The workshop will be of interest to professionals from health and social care, education, therapy, counselling, and the arts, as well as students who might be considering training in Dramatherapy or other therapies. It will also be of interest to those who love theatre and drama and would like to explore the healing potential of the arts. You do not need to have previous experience or skill in acting, theatre or drama to attend. Nor do you need to be a professional. You just need to be open to being creative - or at least curious! Everyone is welcome!

The workshop is open to participants over the age of 16.

Please Note

The Introduction to Dramatherapy Workshop is not therapy – it is an experiential training workshop based on the principles of adult learning, dramatherapeutic core processes and theory, and drama and theatre arts. However, the creative arts have therapeutic potential, which means the workshop may touch on personal processes and material. The workshop will acknowledge personal processes and material; however, the trainers will not provide therapy. Self-care is encouraged.
