About this event

This four-week course is term time only. Tuesday 6pm - 9pm.

Book before the 1st April 2024 to receive a 5% discount, apply promocode EarlyBird24 at the checkout.

During this course we will be taking a structured approach to drawing and painting the human face. Faces are one of the most engaging subjects to draw and paint.

We will be exploring the shapes and the character of the human face and the proportional differences, and the individual expression of personality.

Different turns of the head present different drawing challenges. During the course we will be observing a full-face portrait, a three-quarter view and a profile.

First Session

During this first session you will be drawing a portrait with charcoal and for this you will need charcoal pencils or sticks, sharpening tools, an eraser and cartridge paper.

Second Session

This week you will be drawing a portrait with watercolour pencils. We will attempt to paint this with either watercolour paints, acrylics or dry, soft/hard pastels, or the combination of all these, the choice is yours ! Watercolour and acrylics are water based, so you will need a set of paint brushes suitable for both and a very good quality watercolour paper or a watercolour/canvas board.

Third & Fourth Sessions

During these last 2 weeks you will be studying the painting process in more depth, and you can to do this with acrylics, or oil paints. Again the choice of painting medium will be up to you.

Should you decide to paint with oils, you will need a set of good quality brushes, a canvas or canvas board and a turpentine, which is very essential when painting with oils.

We will aim to complete three different portraits and hopefully we will have fun by doing so.
