An Introduction to Freelancing in the Arts
Event Information
About this Event
They say find a job you love and you'll never work another day in your life. In fact, often it's quite the opposite. Making a career in the arts means working hard, making sacrifices and smart decisions, often walking the line between commerciality and integrity, and it requires a suite of skills including planning, negotiation and self-representation. It can also be extremely good fun.
This workshop, led by artist and programmer Greg Thorpe, will suit beginner or early-career freelancers, but anyone who is working for themselves will benefit from the day.
· Work: finding it, keeping it, increasing it.
· Money: invoicing, expenses, work fees, tax.
· Managing yourself: workload, work strategies, deadlines, delivering.
· Well-being: common anxieties, time off, self-care for freelancers.
Each session allows time for questions and input from the group.
GOOD NEWS! If you are already a freelancer you can claim the cost of this ticket as a tax-deductible expense towards your professional development. If you’re not sure how, we can help you.
