Solitary bees are a fascinating and diverse group with over 200 species found in Britain. Collectively, solitary bees lead a diversity of fascinating life cycles and are very important pollinators.

A number of distinctive solitary bees can be found close to home such as in gardens and parks, and these species will provide the focus of this introductory session.

Join Charlotte Rankin and Gordon Port, who will introduce you to the fascinating lives of solitary bees and learn how to identify some of the distinctive species that can be found close to home.

You will also learn more about how to submit your sightings to the North East Bee Hunt and increase our knowledge of these often overlooked and under-recorded insects in the region.

The session will end with an informal quiz. You will also have the opportunity to ask questions in a Q & A session with Charlotte and Gordon Port (NHSN Invertebrate Section Coordinator).

Course attendees will receive a Zoom link ahead of the first session. If you are new to Zoom, you can find more information about using it at their website here.
