Description

Get to grips with the art of interactive data storytelling

There is more and more data available to us than ever. When confronted with so much information, businesses and organisations are increasingly turning to interactives to tell their stories to as many different audiences as possible. This introductory evening course gives you a solid grounding in the processes and technologies involved in creating interactive data visualisation – from how to find data and tailor it to your audience, to how to create maximum impact with your design.

Led by the Guardian Digital Agency's head of creative, Tobias Sturt, and Adam Frost, head of data visualisation, the course delivers a series of lectures and a practical workshop which gives you the opportunity to get expert feedback on your work. Detailed handouts ensure this course offers a long-term benefit to your communications.

PLEASE NOTE: this course comprises the second section of the seminar Data visualisation: a one-day workshop so it is not recommended for people who have attended this seminar.

This course is for you if...

  • You are a graphic designer who is interested in how interactivity can enhance your work
  • You are a front-end developer interested in creating more elegant interface solutions
  • You are a researcher or presenter who wishes to make their presentations more engaging
  • You're a writer or journalist who wishes to learn more about the processes and technology involved in making interactives

Course description

This evening masterclass will look at how raw data can be turned into striking visual stories, focusing on interactive data visualisation. There will be a workshop in this masterclass in which participants will be asked to collaborate on creating their own visualisations before presenting back to the group. Topics covered on the day include:

  • How to analyse and organise your data
  • The importance of good visual storytelling
  • How to create an intuitive interface
  • Some of the key technologies used to create interactives
  • Examples of best practice

PLEASE NOTE: Although we do discuss the different visualisation software options available, this is not a software training course.
