An Introduction to Leatherworking
Wed, January 18, 2017, 7:00 PM – 9:30 PM GMT
A one-off evening course for absolute beginners, Mia Sabel and Colin Coutts from SABEL Saddlery will teach you the very basics of traditional saddlery, including leather preparation, hands-on hand-stitching and hand-burnishing.
Over the course of the evening, you’ll test out these techniques, learning how to double stitch and create your own personalised leather key ring. This course is perfect for anyone interested in working with leather, and will provide you with a list of tools, specialist suppliers and the basic equipment you’ll need to get you started.
Following a successful career in brand, design and theatre, Mia Sabel left her job in the City to retrain as a Saddler. Mia now uses traditional saddlery techniques and materials to create a range of classic leather products: hand-made, hand-stitched and hand-finished in her Walthamstow workshop. www.sabelsaddlery.co.uk
