An Introduction to Market Research: What, Why and How

Every business needs to understand their market. Market research is one of the most important tools you can use to ensure the success of your business whether you’re just starting out or already established. 

Through the Business & IP Centre Leeds you have free access to exclusive resources that will help you to research different aspects of your market – a market size, sector trends, customer attitudes and your competitors. 

In this workshop you will learn why market research is important, different research techniques and how to use powerful database tools. 

With market research you can: 

• Prove there is a genuine market for your product or service 

• Learn what trends are affecting your market sector 

• Discover who your customers are 

• Identify and understand your competitors. 

In this workshop we will demonstrate a variety of online databases, including COBRA, Mintel, IBISWorld , Statista and MarketIQ. 

The workshop will be delivered by the BIPC team. 

The Start-up and Grow project is being delivered by Leeds City Council and Leeds Libraries, and is part funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF). In West Yorkshire, the West Yorkshire Combined Authority leads the implementation of the Fund as part of the Mayor's ambition to make West Yorkshire the best place to work, learn and live.
