About this event

  • 2 hours 15 minutes

Nature journaling is a time-honoured practice that combines art, science, and personal reflection. It's a way to connect with nature on a deeper level, enhancing your observation skills while expressing your creativity.

This workshop is perfect if you’d like to deepen your understanding and connection to nature. The session will start with a welcoming circle to get to know each other and gain an understanding of where everyone is on their nature journeys. Then it's time for the journaling to begin. We spend a couple of hours exploring an area of nature, using curiosity and creativity to complete two beginners nature journaling activities. Later, we'll settle down for a short group discussion where you can share your journal pages and reflections with fellow participants, if you feel comfortable to do so.

After the workshop, you can take home your own customisable nature journal and project booklet to keep up with your nature journaling at home!

About Millington Wood

This session will take place in Millington Wood, near Pocklington in East Yorkshire.

This Local Nature Reserve is a special place to discover the scents and songs of an ancient wood. This stunning woodland is neatly tucked away in a Yorkshire Wolds valley. It is one of the richest botanical woodlands in the East Riding, and is a Site of Special Scientific Interest.

In spring and summer, wild garlic and bluebells fill the wood with colour and scent, and it is alive with bird song. In autumn and winter, orange and yellow tinted tree tops glow in the valley as it becomes a quiet refuge for wildlife.

Millington Wood, which covers 52 acres, was declared a Local Nature Reserve in 1991 in recognition of its wildlife value and its importance to the local community.

Frequently asked questions

What do I need to bring?

The workshop will provide all the essential supplies including nature journals, pencils, clipboards and sit mats. You're welcome to bring a rucksack or bag to carry anything else you might want (e.g. water, snacks, spare layers).

What do I get to take home?

You will be able to take home your customisable nature journal, a quick starter guide, and a nature journal project book full of nature journaling activities to try after the workshop.

What should I wear?

Our workshops are hosted in wooded habitats, which can feel cooler than expected. Please bring layers to keep you warm and appropriate footwear for walking. We also suggest bringing a waterproof, too!

Will the workshops still go ahead if it’s bad weather?

Our workshops will go ahead whether it's sunny or raining! There are a lot of benefits to experiencing and noticing nature in different weather conditions (but make sure to bring your wet weather gear if it's due to rain). Workshops will be rescheduled in cases of adverse weather (e.g. high winds).

Can I bring my dog?
