Event description

Description

Much of Nottingham is built on a soft sandstone bedrock in which hundreds of caves have been hewn over more than 1100 years. Come along to this talk to find out how many caves there are, what they have been used for (including some very unusual uses that are very little known) and where they are located. The talk takes place inside a cave which is not usually open to the public.

The illustrated talk will be given by archaeologist Scott Lomax who has spent nine years researching the city's caves. Scott is responsible for the Nottingham Historic Environment Record which has records of all known caves in the city.

It is guaranteed that everyone will learn something during this talk. There will be plenty of time for questions.

Please note that whilst this event is free, you will need to pay the entry fee to enter the museum, details of which can be found at: http://www.nottinghamcastle.org.uk/explore/museum-of-nottingham-life-at-brewhouse-yard
