An Introduction to Participatory Budgeting

This session offers an introduction to Participatory Budgeting which is a tool for engaging with communities and empowering them. Participatory budgeting is a way for local people to have a direct say in how and where public funds can be used to address local needs. At this session you will hear more about what participatory budgeting is and how it is used in democratic decision making. You will also hear from local organisations that have used participatory budgeting and the positive outcomes it has had in their communities.
Who is the Course Aimed at?
Council staff, members of community groups and organisations who would like to improve their understanding of Participatory Budgeting.
By the end of the training participants will have:
- an awareness of the origins of participatory budgeting
- an understanding of Participatory Budgeting and its role in empowering communities
- an understanding of how PB works in the decision making process for communities
