WHY ATTEND
Regulation is a key factor in product design and development in the Speciality Chemicals Sector. An understanding of the UK/EU and other regulatory landscapes, and how it influences ingredient selection and the choice of formulation for specific applications, is therefore essential for those working in the speciality and performance chemical areas.
COURSE OUTLINE
The course will provide a basic understanding of the relevant regulatory issues. It will cover topics of current or future relevance to those working in the Speciality Chemicals sector including GB/EU REACH, Biocides, Detergents, Cosmetics GHS/CLP, and Ecolabelling. It will provide information on the background to the legislation, the current position and any proposed developments and how all this can influence product development and design. The format of the day is designed to provide a grounding in most areas of chemical regulation to provide a little history and background, as well as where to go for more help.
WHO WILL BENEFIT
This one-day course is designed to provide a basic overview for those either not routinely involved in regulatory affairs or new to the Sector.
The course tutor is Mark Selby. Mark has worked in the area of regulatory science for nearly 30 years, starting with a UK-based speciality chemical manufacturer at the time that the EINECS list was closing. This background in industry provided a valuable insight into the problems facing manufacturing organisations with limited resources and tight schedules, but which needed to keep up with legislation. Work surrounding chemical supply legislation and other regulatory testing led to contact with a multi-national contract research organisation and Mark was employed by them in 1989 to set up a consulting service to cover chemical supply legislation. Mark works with REACHReady and has also been involved with projects training governmental agencies within Europe and other parts of the world including ECHA.
Feedback from those who attended previously includes:
