There are over 90,000 people living with dementia in Scotland and the housing sector plays a central role in helping them to live well. We know there are lots of examples of good practice but there’s still a lot of work to do.

On 30 October 2019 CIH Scotland, the Place Home and Housing Portfolio of Healthcare Improvement Scotland’s Improvement Hub (iHub) and Alzheimer Scotland launched the Housing and Dementia Practice Framework which is designed to support housing organisations to continuously improve the way they design and deliver dementia friendly services, the primary purpose of the framework is to better support people to live well at home with dementia.

The Framework sets out five outcomes that are important for people living with dementia, their families and carers. The five outcomes are underpinned by 11 commitments that housing organisations can achieve or work towards.

As a tool the Framework and its support materials are open to everyone, we encourage every housing organisation - big or small, specialist or mainstream – to download the Framework and explore how they can use it to complement their current work.

In this webinar Ashley Campbell, Policy and Practice Manager for the Chartered Institute of Housing Scotland, and James Battye, Associate Improvement Advisor for Healthcare Improvement Scotland, will explore the key principles of the Framework with Dorothy Askew providing insight on how Aberdeen City Council have utilised the Framework.

The session will also make use of Slido and the MSTeams chat function to hear your thoughts and ideas about how the Framework and support materials could be further developed to support you.
