Event Details

This one-day practical workshop (worth 8 Time-Valued CPD hours) will begin with a Graham-based contemporary dance technique class, including characteristic features such as the use of breath, contraction/release, pleadings and spirals. This will be followed by a brief consideration of Graham’s background and an introduction to selected works. After a movement exploration, participants will work in small groups to create phrases in the style of Graham.

 Aims:

To introduce participants to characteristic features of Graham technique and enhance participants’ practical skills and knowledge of contemporary dance;

 Learning Outcomes:

On completion of the workshop participant will have:

  • An understanding of some aspects of the Graham technique and gained knowledge of Graham’s background and style

  • Improved technical skills in contemporary dance technique

  • An understanding of how contemporary dance can be taught in an interactive, accessible and inclusive manner

  • Explored movement in response to verbal instruction and created movement phrases in the style of Graham.
