Event description
Are you an employer in Tower Hamlets with disabled employees? Looking for expert advice and free training on Inclusion?

About this event

The Covid-19 pandemic and the Black Lives Matter movement have drawn major attention to inequalities in our society. While recent years have seen organisations invest more in Equality, Diversity and Inclusion programmes, there is a great deal more to be done. With only 46.3% of working-age Deaf or disabled people employed in the UK compared with 76.4% of non-disabled people, we urgently need change.

Real’s ‘THEN and NOW’ project offers local employers a unique opportunity to gain the training, advice and guidance you might need to become an excellent employer of Deaf and disabled people. All with the minimum of cost, time or fuss. For free.

What to expect

A one-hour meeting via Zoom to learn more about us and all of the free training, services and opportunities available to members of the Tower Hamlets Employers Network (THEN).

Who can attend

This event is open to employers, managers, human resource professionals and recruitment staff working in and around Tower Hamlets, London.

Disability Access

We want to include everyone, no matter what their access needs. If you have any access needs for online meetings, viewing PowerPoint, or taking part in group discussions, please let us know as soon as possible. This is in confidence and so we can talk to you in advance of the event about how we can adapt things to meet your needs.

Organiser Real

Organiser of An Introduction to the 'THEN and NOW’ Inclusive Employment Project

  1. We’re run by disabled people, for disabled people, and have been around in one form or another for over twenty years.
  2. We think disabled people should have the same choices and opportunities in their lives as non-disabled people, so we challenge inequality and discrimination.
  3. We support anyone in Tower Hamlets who is or has been disabled or who has a long-term health condition.
  4. Everything we do is based on the social model of disability.
  5. We support people with any type of impairment or disability, and of all ages, genders, gender identities, ethnicities, religions, beliefs, and sexual orientations.
  6. We also work with friends, families, carersprofessionals and allies who support our goals.
  7. We’re formed through a merger of Disability Coalition – Tower Hamlets and Disability Information Training Opportunity, bringing together lots of different skills and experience.
  8. We get most of our funding from Tower Hamlets Council and the local NHS, but we also get help from other organisations, businesses and donors.
