Jointly organised by the RCVS, BVA and VDS, this two-day course provides key information and skills needed to practise in the UK.

The course is aimed at overseas qualified veterinary surgeons and veterinary nurses during their first two years working in the UK, as well as those considering working here.

11 May 2016 - Day 1

The day is free of charge and provides an overview of the UK profession. The course will cover how the profession is organised, information about jobs, employment rights and the support available if things go wrong.

Talks will be given by representatives from each of the three organising bodies, together with the Veterinary Benevolent Fund. In addition, Luis Sainz-Pardo from VetAbroad will provide ‘tips from an overseas vet who has survived’.

12 May 2016 - Day 2

Is a Communications Masterclass and goes through challenges in the consulting room and how to handle them. The day costs £160 per delegate and payment must be made in advance in order to secure your place.

Travel to the Radisson Blu Leeds

The Radisson Blu is easily accessible from all major motorways. Leeds railway station is a 5-minute walk from the hotel, and Leeds Bradford Airport is located about 14 kilometres away. Manchester International Airport is about 90 kilometres from the hotel, and direct train service is available from the airport to Leeds station.

By train:

Travelling from Leeds train station on foot: Leave the station into City Square, heading north up Park Row. The hotel is straight ahead at the corner of Headrow and Cookridge Street, within The Light complex. Approximate walking time is 10 minutes.

By car:

Travelling from London by car: Follow the M1 to junction 42 to M621.

Travelling from the Leeds Bradford Airport by car: Follow signs to the A658, Leeds city centre onto the B6152. Turn left onto the A65 until it joins the inner ring road, keeping left. Take the first exit onto Westgate. Turn left at the Town Hall and then take the first right onto Great George Street. Continue straight through the traffic lights until the next right into The Light complex car park.
